Dodge Caliber Sticky Gas Pedals Investigation
Yesterday morning the National Highway Traffic Administration announced it will be launching a sticky accelerator pedals investigation on 2007 Dodge Caliber vehicles. Both Dodge and the NHTSA have confirmed that no property damage, accidents or injuries have resulted from the sticky pedal issue.
NHTSA received Dodge Caliber pedal complaints
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announcement said that they would be "reviewing" the "potential sticky accelerator pedal" problem. There have been five consumer reports to the NHTSA about this problem. The Dodge Caliber is equipped with a brake override system. This means that if anyone behind the wheel of the Dodge Caliber undergoes a sticky accelerator pedal, the driver can still stop the vehicle.
CTS, Dodge Caliber sticky pedals manufacturer
The accelerator pedals in the 2007 Doge Caliber is manufactured by a company in Indiana called the CTS Corporation. The same accelerator pedals manufacturer, CTS Corporation, have also been found in numerous Toyota recall. CTS shares have risen in the last few days, despite the concern about sticky gas pedals. It is still uncertain whether the faulty pedals that were installed in Dodge and Toyota vehicles were installed in other vehicles.
Dodge Calibers included in the investigation
There has not yet been a recall issued on the 2007 model year Dodge Caliber. Almost 161,000 Dodge Calibers in the 2007 model year would be included in the NHTSA investigation. Dodge Motor Company says it has narrowed the sticky gas pedal problem down to about 10,000 Dodge Calibers manufactured during March and April of 2006. A Dodge Caliber recall may likely follow after the sticky gas pedals investigation is launched. The gas pedal investigation is based entirely on a mechanical problem, not an electrical or design issue.
Own a 2007 Dodge Caliber?
If you own a Dodge Caliber in the 2007 model, you do not have wait for the NHTSA investigation to be brought to a close. Chrysler Group, owner of Dodge, is offering free pedal inspections. You should report the issue to the NHTSA if you experience any problem with a sticky gas pedal. This will ensure the issue will be included in the investigation.
