Masters of Blues Guitar
Each and every guitar player has at least two or three awesome players that they love to try and emulate.
Of course it is impossible to play like any of the greats as there are so many variables at play when creating sound and tone.
The amplifiers they use, individual tone settings on the guitar pickups, even the choice of strings and even perhaps the way they tune their guitar – they all contribute to the unique sound that a great player produces.
When it comes to the blues and individual sounds, the two most notable guitar players that I think of mind are BB King and John Lee Hooker.
A particularly awesome guitar that is generally connected to BB King is the Epiphone BB King guitar produced initially by Gibson. It is an absolutely beautiful looking guitar and has some really neat features for changing the tone mid way through a song.
BB King is the penultimate performer continuing to play to audiences in most years, 5 nights a week, and this living legend is well into his 70’s.
You can’t help but be inspired by BB King’s commitment to the blues genre and to his avid fans all over the world. What a fine example for all of us average-joe players out there who dream of being able to perform in the limelight just that one time!
The second great guitar I want to put up for consideration is the Epiphone Sheraton guitar – a personal choice of John Lee Hooker in the middle of the 60’s .
John Lee lived the archetypal life of a blues player – born to poor sharecroppers in the deep south, he worked and played guitar through the depression era, WWII, and started to record in the late 1940’s. Performing in the movie “The Blues Brothers” was a change from his guitar performances and he then reached international fame with his hit album “The Healer” which came out in the late 1970’s. Sadly John Lee Hooker passed away in 2001.
In the early part of his career John Lee predominantly played acoustic guitar but he moved to electric in the late 1940’s and began playing the Epiphone Sheraton II guitar in the mid 1960’s.
Reissue guitars, being those that are copies of ones used by past guitar legends are in most cases of superior quality given they carry the name of a great guitarist.
Having a chance to own a guitar replica of a master guitarists gives all of us the opportunity to own our own piece of history.
